Ridge to Reef

A journey to discover the rich biodiversity of the forest and the sea

At Luuk Nature Center, experience the wonders of nature right before your eyes, the fascination of biodiversity, and its importance through guided tours and other activities, as well as the exhibits inside.
Here, forests inhabited by birds unique to Palau and beautiful coral reefs teeming with colorful fish become places to encounter and learn about the profound depths of nature.
Luuk means “nest” in the Palauan language.
This name embodies our hope that PPR’s seas and mountains serve as homes for diverse living creatures, and that this Nature Center becomes a base for protecting that biodiversity.

PALAU PACIFIC RESORT, AN ECO-FRIENDLY ISLAND RETREAT

Nestled among 64 acres of lush tropical gardens with the Pacific Ocean caressing its pristine white sand beach, the Palau Pacific Resort is the ultimate tropical gateway in Micronesia. Our luxury resort in Palau is a one of the primary supporters of conservation effort to protect the island’s biodiversity for future generations. The resort contributes annually to various organizations and continues to promote eco-tourism activities. Read below to learn more about the eco-friendly practices at Palau Pacific Resort.

BUILDING NO HIGHER THAN THE TALLEST COCONUT TREE

BUILDING NO HIGHER THAN THE TALLEST COCONUT TREE

The buildings within the resort are designed in harmony with the surrounding natural environment, based on the founding president’s concept of “Don’t build anything taller than the palm trees.”
The roofs are structured in the classic A-shape of the traditional Palauan men’s meeting house called “bai”.

MARINE LIFE RESERVE BY KOROR STATE LAW

MARINE LIFE RESERVE BY KOROR STATE LAW

Palau Pacific Resort’s Marine Sanctuary was established on December 2, 2002. The fringing reef sanctuary has a high biodiversity with over 566 species of marine life including algae, sea grass, coral, fish, and macro invertebrates. This protected sanctuary is home to several endangered species: the famous giant clam, the humphead parrotfish, the humphead wrasse and the hawksbill turtle.

PROTECTING WATER RESOURCES

PROTECTING WATER RESOURCES

Palau has had several dry seasons leading to water shortages and the need for increased conservation. To ensure an adequate and safe water supply, the resort maintains its own source of water from rainwater and deepwells. Water drawn from these sources are filtered, chlorinated, and stored in tanks that distribute the water to the entire resort.

TRANSPLANTING BABY GIANT CLAMS

TRANSPLANTING BABY GIANT CLAMS

Palau is home to seven species of clams out of nine species in the world. Guests can participate in the Baby Clam Planting at Palau Pacific Resort’s marine sanctuary during Earth Day or on special occasions. This is our effort to conserve clam species as well as provide a unique snorkeling experience for our guests.

SOLAR POWER GENERATION

SOLAR POWER GENERATION

In an effort to make the most of our natural resources, a solar module panel was installed at the resort in 2011 to start moving towards energy conservation. The solar panels currently provide electricity for the lobby area of Palau Pacific Resort.

COMPOSTING RAW GARBAGE

COMPOSTING RAW GARBAGE

Every day, raw food garbage is picked up and sent to the Koror State’s compost recycling center where it is processed into pure soil. That new soil is later used for gardening throughout Palau Pacific Resort.
